St. Stephen Coptic Orthodox Church
At St. Stephen Coptic Orthodox Church, our services are at the center of our spiritual life and community. Through prayer, worship, and teaching, we grow together in faith and draw closer to God. Each service is not only a tradition but also a living encounter with Christ, helping us to live out the Gospel in our daily lives.
Our Services at a Glance
The life of the Church revolves around worship and education. From the Divine Liturgy to Sunday School and Bible lessons, each service nurtures the soul and strengthens our bond as one family in Christ.
Divine Liturgy
The Divine Liturgy is the crown of our worship. In this sacred service, we offer prayers, hymns, Scripture readings, and partake in the Eucharist—the Body and Blood of Christ. It is through the Divine Liturgy that we unite with God and with one another, finding peace, forgiveness, and spiritual renewal.
Sunday Schools
Our children are the future of the Church. Sunday School provides them with a strong spiritual foundation through Bible stories, Coptic hymns, the lives of the saints, and interactive lessons. With the guidance of dedicated servants, children learn to live their faith joyfully and grow into active members of the Church community.
Service Timings: Fridays from 7:30 pm to 8:30 pm
Bible Study
The aim of our Bible Study service is to have a strong relationship with God through His word, to listen, speak, and know Jesus Christ the Lord by encouraging our children to read the Holy Bible every day. Our children embark on a learning Journey in the Holy Bible experiencing how God deals with His children and getting to know deeper aspects of God including, His will, aim, and His story from the beginning.
Age Group: Grade 2 to 12
Every service in the Church is an invitation to encounter God. Whether through the sacraments, teaching, or fellowship, our services provide the nourishment our souls need to live a life of holiness, love, and service. Together, they shape our identity as a faithful Christian community rooted in the Coptic Orthodox tradition.
A Brief History of Coptic Sunday School and St. Habib Guirguis
St. Archdeacon Habib Guirguis (1876–1951) was the first student and later the 2nd dean of the Coptic Orthodox Theological Seminary in Cairo. Seeing the need for deeper Christian education, he founded Coptic Sunday Schools around 1900—15 years before Egypt had public schools. His vision was to strengthen the faith of young children and protect the Church from outside missionary influence.
Through his efforts, Sunday Schools became the foundation of the Coptic Church’s modern renaissance, spreading throughout Egypt and shaping generations with structured curricula and textbooks. In 2013, he was canonized as Saint Archdeacon Habib Guirguis by Pope Tawadros II. His legacy continues as Sunday Schools remain a pillar of Coptic Orthodox life today.
